Description
The exact origins of this letter, its specific creators, and its specific intended recipients are unknown, although it is clearly marked as a “draft.” It appears to be from a group calling themselves “the committee of correspondents” and writing to Massachusetts’ “liberal” politicians on behalf of “the working class people of Boston.” Even with unknown origins, the letter provides significant insight into a particular set of anti-busing sentiments. The committee laments the current state of the city of Boston and states that “the Federal Court in Boston and Judge Garrity are distorting the Constitution and creating a Frankenstein in the form of massive forced busing.” They further detail their feelings over the course the seven page letter and call on “Massachusetts liberals” to find a way end busing and “honor” “the rights of all people and all neighborhoods.”
