Description
An account of the resource
CIty of Boston Photographs of School Buildings, circa 1920-1960, is located at the Boston City Archives. It includes photographs of Boston Public School buildings which were kept in the School Committee Administration Library. The photographs date from circa 1920s-1960s.

While photographers are not indentified on all of the images, some of the known photographers whose work is represented include Glasier, Conlin, Paul J. Weber, and Fay Foto Service. The Glasier and the Conlin photographs appear to date from the 1920s-1930s.

Many of the later photographs appear to have been taken upon completion of construction of new school buildings. The majority of the photographs show the exterior of the school building. There are just a few interior shots including the Boston Latin School auditorium, the Roxbury Memorial High School pool and some classroom shots. The collection is digitized and is available for viewing online.

Description
An account of the resource
This East Boston parent is very upset at the prospect of their children being bused out of East Boston. They describe East Boston residents as a unique breed who have faced a great deal of turmoil before in their neighborhood through the loss of Wood Island Park and the expansion of Logan airport. They believe that the residents of East Boston will fight for what they want, which is for their children not to be bused out of their neighborhood.

Description

This typed letter to Mayor Kevin White expresses anger at the proposition of busing students across the city. The author, an East Boston resident, would rather students be transported via helicopters than buses as the students would then not have to travel through the Sumner tunnel.
